Policy on Library Carrels
University of Wisconsin-Parkside Library

The study carrels on the second and third levels of the library are assigned by the library director using the following guidelines:

First priority for carrels will be given to faculty members with a demonstrated research need.

Second priority for carrels will be given to adjunct faculty or graduate students who have office space needs.
Third priority for carrels will be given to university staff who have office space needs.
More than one person may be assigned to a carrel.
Assignments for carrels will be for a one-year period. If a carrel holder anticipates that s/he will not be on campus for a semester, s/he may be asked to relinquish the carrel for reassignment. All assignments will be reviewed each September and new assignments made at that time.
When use of a carrel is terminated, the key or keys must be returned to the library office; only this office has authority for transferring ownership of keys.
In order to assure library collection maintenance and circulation control, library staff will check all carrels on a regular basis. Any library materials not checked out will be returned to the stacks.
No telephone will be installed in any carrel nor may furniture be added or taken away from a carrel without written permission from the library director. Except in unusual circumstances, permission will not be granted.
Carrel holders will not be issued keys to the library.
