What Friends are for

The purposes of the Friends of the University of Wisconsin-Parkside Library are:

What Friends do

The Friends will support and enhance selected areas of the Library collection which are of special interest or use to the local community but which cannot be adequately supported by regular funding.

The Friends will help plan programs which will be of interest and value to the local community.

Benefits of Membership

UW-Parkside Library Friend of the Community

UW-Parkside's Library provides a research component which complements the excellent collections of public and other libraries in the region. The Library has traditionally been available for use by any resident of the community. In fact, community users account for more than 20% of the items checked out from the Library. Regular users of the Library include researchers from local industries, history buffs, amateur genealogists, high school students, independent scholars, extension students, and other individuals working on projects requiring the use of an academic research collection.

How do I join the Friends of the UW-Parkside Library?

An individual membership in the Friends is twelve dollars ($12.00) per year. Reduced rates for students and senior citizens, as well as higher rates in the donor, sponsor, or benefactor categories are available.

When is the Book Sale? How can I donate books and audio-visual materials to the library?

The Friends of the Library gratefully accepts donations of books and audiovisual materials. Donations are reviewed by Library staff and are either added to the Library's collection or are offered for sale at a Friends of the Library Book Sale.

Proceeds from the book sales are used by the Friends to support the collections and services of the Library. Gifts may be dropped off at any time at the Library or in the book drop on Inner Loop Road under the Union bridge. Please contact the Gifts Librarian, Dina Kaye (voice:262-595-2215, email: kaye@uwp.edu) if you have a large number of books and/or if you would like to make arrangement to have the books picked up.

What about magazines, can I donate them to the library?

If you have magazines or journals you'd like to donate, contact the Serials Librarian, Anne Rasmussen (voice: 262-595-2420, e-mail: anne.rasmussen@uwp.edu). Due to the complexities of handling and processing, magazine and journal donations are not always accepted.

Can I find out how much my donated books are worth, for tax purposes?

Library staff are not able to appraise donations. However, the Friends of the Library can provide you with a letter acknowledging the number of volumes donated. If you would like a letter, please include your name and address along with your donation.
