Vanaja has the administrative responsibility for the management, planning and development of all policies, services, budget, and supervision of staff in the university library including that of Archives and Special Collections.

She came to UW-Parkside from UW-Milwaukee, where she was the Assistant Director for Public Services. She holds a MA in Indian Language and Literature/Comparative Literature from the University of Kerala, India and a MA in Library Science from the University of Chicago.
