Tutorial on using LibX
LibX UW-Parkside Edition is a Firefox and Internet Explorer extension that provides direct access to UW-P Library's resources. It features:
- Toolbar: LibX is a toolbar for Firefox and Internet Explore that allows you to quickly search the UW-Parkside catalog, Periodical list, Google Scholar, Worldcat, PubMed and other search tools. LibX also adds Quick Links to frequently used pages on UW-Parkside library website: homepage, catalog, resources etc.
- Right-click menu: when you have installed LibX you can highlight text on a web page and right-click for a menu of search options
- Magic button: is the button labeled "Scholar" in the toolbar. It can be used by selecting text from a page or pdf and dragging it onto the button. Libx will read Scholar's results for you, determine whether the article is found and if so, ask the UW-P Periodicals List for a copy.
- Embedded links: LibX embeds a UW-Parkside cue
on search results in Amazon, Barnes & Noble, Google Scholar, NYT Book Reviews, and more that will lead you to Parkside resources
- AutoLinks: LibX automatically links ISBNs, ISSNs, PubMed IDs and DOIs to UW-Parkside's print and licensed e-resources.

If you are trying to access Parkside's resources from off campus, right click anywhere on the page and choose "Reload ... via UW-Parkside Library for remote access " from the menu that appears. LibX uses Google Scholar to search for articles
and directs the user to the electronic copy
subscribed to by UW-Parkside Library. Select a citation,
then search the Google Scholar by using right click.
LibX uses Google Scholar to search for articles and directs you to the electronic copy subscribed to by the Library. Highlight a citation, then drag-and-drop it onto the Scholar button on the toolbar. You can use this feature even from inside a PDF.

LibX places cues in web pages such as:
- Amazon
- Barnes & Noble
- Google
- Yahoo! Search
- NY Times Book Review...
Whenever you see the cue, click on the link to look at what the Library has to offer.
Similarly, links will appear on pages that have implemented COinS. These include the Physical Review Online Archive (PROLA), Citebase, Google Scholar, Hubmed (an alternative interface to PubMed) and WorldCat.
LibX recognizes ISSNs, ISBNs, PubMed IDs and turns them into autolinks that you may use to search for specific books and journals. A book title can have different ISBNs for the paperback, the hardcover, even for different editions. LibX supports OCLC's xISBN service: you can find a book, given an ISBN, even if the library holds this book under a different ISBN.
