American Multicultural Student Leadership Conference (AMSLC)
The University of Wisconsin System
Report of the AMSLC Workgroup August 2006
On-Site Activities. The UW host institution manages all conference activities in collaboration with the next host institution. Chaperones are encouraged to foster student participation in all conference activities. Students receive certificates for presenting at the conference.
Assessment and Evaluation. In order to assess the impact of the conference on students and evaluate the planning and implementation of the conference, two evaluation processes will take place annually beginning in 2006. UW System will conduct an evaluation of the host campus and the next host institution and the UW host institution will develop and administer a student evaluation of the conference. This information will be used to assess the impact of the conference on student leadership development and excellence in order to continuously improve the conference over time. Such information will be shared with all parties involved.
Additional assessment methods may include longitudinal surveys with AMSLC participants to identify what additional leadership opportunities they pursue, their persistence and graduation rates compared to their peers, and future endeavors beyond graduation such as graduate studies, employment, and community leadership. Activities found to enhance leadership and excellence for participants should be maintained and strengthened for future conferences. Likewise, those activities found to be less effective should be phased out of the program.
Follow Up. AMSLC would not be possible without the commitment and dedication of faculty, staff, and students, particularly those directly involved in the planning and implementation of the conference, so expressions of gratitude are always welcome. Moreover, AMSLC Coordinators, Chaperones, and Faculty/Staff Mentors should encourage students who attend AMSLC to also take advantage of other opportunities to enhance their personal and professional development.
