American Multicultural Student Leadership Conference (AMSLC)
The University of Wisconsin System
Report of the AMSLC Workgroup August 2006

Funding

The AMSLC Workgroup considered feedback on how AMSLC should be funded in the future and determined that the budget will no longer depend on UW System fundraising in the private sector to finance the conference, though UW institutions are free to solicit donor support to enhance the conference program. External fundraising needs to occur well in advance of the conference so that funding implications can be taken into account for budget planning purposes.
Registration fees should be structured to cover the basic costs of the conference. They will be determined by the estimated number of participants for a given year and associated costs. Registration fees include conference materials, accommodations, meals, programs, and activities unless otherwise specified by the host campus. Registration fees may vary from year to year depending on location, the number of participants, and whether the host campus chooses to fundraise or underwrite the conference.

Multicultural/Disadvantaged Coordinators proposed this funding structure in order to preserve the integrity of the conference and maintain ownership over conference planning and outcomes. UW and other participating institutions are encouraged to subsidize or cover student registration fees in order to maximize student attendance.
