American Multicultural Student Leadership Conference (AMSLC)
The University of Wisconsin System
Report of the AMSLC Workgroup August 2006
Purpose of AMSLC
The AMSLC Workgroup, in consultation with the Multicultural/Disadvantaged Coordinators and Precollege Directors, identified the overarching purpose of AMSLC is to foster global leadership and service among multicultural and economically disadvantaged students by providing students with the opportunity to (a) present their work, (b) obtain knowledge and skills in preparation for future leadership opportunities, and (c) engage with others within and across cultures (see figure 1).
The conference will remain open to both students of color and economically disadvantaged students from UW institutions. Host institutions will consider inviting a select number of students from private Wisconsin colleges in order to promote excellence and success in higher education in Wisconsin.
