Overview of Program

The Parkside Ready Rangers program combines the firm foundation for student success that the University of Wisconsin–Parkside has developed through our Student Success Initiatives with the focus on 5th grade students in the local school districts. This program will help participating students understand the importance of higher education, but also help them see that college is a realistic possibility for themselves. Through ongoing support and contact with the participants by role models and the on-campus events, we will ensure that the participants are college-ready when they graduate high school.

Position Descriptions/Responsibilities

• Attend training (tentatively scheduled for September 10th – 12th)
• Be a positive role model
• Role Models (RM's) will be assigned to two (2) classrooms and will represent UWP and the Ready Rangers Program to those classes.
• Attend all Ready Ranger events including pre/post visits to the elementary schools as well as any follow up events at the schools, the campus visit days, and all monthly events that are planned for the participants

Qualifications/Requirements

• Completed Application
• One (1) letter of recommendation by faculty or academic staff
• Must be in good academic standing with a minimum GPA of 2.5
• Must have completed at least one (1) term on campus
• Criminal Background check will be required
• Preferred – some type of reliable transportation

Supervision

Role Models will receive direct supervision from both the Ready Rangers Program Coordinator and the Recruitment & Training Intern.

Commitment

Role Models will be expected to fulfill all responsibilities as well as serve 1 office hour a week in the Ready Rangers Office. (please see calendar of responsibilities)

Compensation

$350 stipend at the end of each semester that you serve as a Ready Rangers Role Model
