Program-to-Program Transfer/Articulation

An articulation agreement between two colleges means that one college agrees to accept courses in transfer from another college as equivalent to specific courses or as meeting specific degree requirements. This agreement is worked out in advance of transfer and applies to any student who meets the articulation agreement requirements. Articulation agreements facilitate transfer of students from one institution to another. These types of agreements are very beneficial as a planning tool for students who transfer from a two-year to a four-year college.

The articulation agreements with Gateway Technical College and UW-Parkside, for courses outside of general education requirements, are designed as program-to-program agreements. This means a student at Gateway Technical College in a specific program of study who transfers to and graduates from UW-Parkside in a specific area of study may be eligible to transfer additional credits beyond general education courses. At UW-Parkside, a concentration is an area of emphasis within the major. Please note that for some of the agreements, you need to select not only a specific major, but a specific concentration as well. For example, if a student is in the criminal justice-law enforcement program at Gateway, transfers to UW-Parkside and graduates with a major in criminal justice, he/she may be eligible for 24 transfer credits in addition to the 30 general education transfer credits and two courses in math and/or science. This would give the student a possible total up to 64 credits in transfer. Please note the student must choose courses specified in the articulation agreement to achieve the maximum number of transferable credits. The additional credits awarded based on a program-to-program articulation agreement are held in escrow (not applied) until graduation.
