Timeline: at least 4 weeks prior to grant deadline

Contact with Research Administration
Timeline: at least 4-6 weeks prior to grant deadline

  • Evaluate feasability
  • Prioritize based on department, institutional needs
  • Aligned with strategic plan?
  • Budgetary constraints (match?)
  • Go/no go decision
  • Establish timelines, deadlines, responsibilities and workload if applicable
  • Engage budget and HR as applicable

Proposal Writing Process
Timeline: 3-4 weeks prior to grant deadline

  • PI sends drafts to Director of Research Administration for input and guidance
  • Budget drafted and refined
  • PI begins securing letters of support/committment if applicable
  • Grants Transmittal Form completed by PI

Pre-Submission
Timeline: 2-3 weeks prior to grant deadline

  • PI sends final draft to Director of Research Administration
  • Research Administration responds with recommended changes or potential problems
  • Research Administration begins submission paperwork (forms, checklists for submission, budget narrative, budget forms)
  • Verify indirect costs

Final Submission
Timeline: no less than 2 weeks prior to grant deadline

  • Final revisions and editing completed
  • All forms completed
  • Submission by Research Administration no less than 2 days prior to deadline to avoid delays with grants.gov or other
