Blazing the Path to Success

Dan Gediman is the executive producer of the national public radio program This I Believe which allows remarkable men and women to share their life philosophies. In the kick-off to the Spring leadership series Dan will speak about what he has learned about leadership and personal development throughout a successful career working with non-profit organizations and through his interactions with the incredible individuals who have contributed their thoughts to This I Believe.

Facilitating Group Activities

As a student leader, or CEO, part of your job will be to train and support others. This program will provide you with tips and approaches to facilitation that will help you lead a group through training exercises or team building activities like a pro. Participants will participate in teambuilding activities, but more importantly, they will learn to lead them.

UW-P Spring Leadership Conference:
Student Leadership, Springboard to Professional Success

This leadership conference offers an intense day of leadership development and activities designed to help new leaders grow and experienced student leaders refine their skills. Lunch and a morning snack will be provided. Keynote Speaker: Len Iaquinta, Leadership for the Rest of Your Life.

Interview Skills Workshop

Presenters: Bryan Hughes and Michelle Nevarez-Larkin
Everyone gets nervous for interviews. This workshop will help you hone your skills and give you tips to make sure that you are ready when you apply for jobs and internships. Candidates for UW-P Student Leadership positions are especially encouraged to attend.

Building Successful Partnerships

Betty White and Saturday Night Live. Dr. Pepper and Kiss. Unlikely partnerships or genius collaborations? Both had successful outcomes. Come to this interactive workshop to learn how to identify possible partners and create mutually beneficial relationships.

Personal Finance and Decision Making

A penny saved is a penny earned….right? Learn how to increase the money flowing into your bank account, while simultaneously reducing the term of your student loans by a few years! Daniel Graff will explain some of the basics of personal finance and how tools like credit cards, student loans, and mortgages actually work.

Assertiveness: You Will Go To This Program, Part II

One of our most popular programs from first semester is back for part two. This program will continue a discussion on how you can assert yourself confidently and appropriately. Everyone deserves to be heard and this program will give you thoughts on how you can make sure you are.

 


Nonviolent Communication: A Process for More Open and Effective Communication

Dr. Shailor will demonstrate how leaders can transform conflicts through a four-step process that helps people to develop greater awareness, honesty, compassion, and creativity. Participants will have the opportunity to practice the process and to consider how they will make use of it in their own lives.

Parkside Strategic Plan Discussion

This program is not a workshop. This is an opportunity to engage in the shaping of your UW-Parkside community. Creating a strategic plan for UW-Parkside has been a long and difficult process, but without engagement and input from the 5,000 students enrolled on our campus, the plan is just a plan. This is your chance to give feedback on the strategic plan and offer ways to increase the involvement of students in its implementation.

Event Planning 101

Campus programs, meetings, weddings, dinner parties, and the Emmy Awards all have one thing in common. They are events that take advanced planning and they all involve a large workload that can be handled well when broken down into smaller more manageable tasks. Our presenter will talk you through event planning so that when you are responsible, nothing gets missed.

Now What?

You’ve built your leadership skills. Now what? You’ve done the work and this program will help you figure out your next step toward putting your leadership training into action. This program will focus on your role as a citizen leader in whatever community you belong to and ways you can continually engage in service and leadership on campus and beyond.

Earn Your Leadership Certificate
To earn the Student Activities Leadership Certificate you must:

- Attend 12 workshops in the Leadership Series.
- Complete 20 hours of community service. Service verification forms are available in Student Activities.
- Write a reflection on your leadership growth and progress toward your goals before the end of spring semester.

All students who complete these requirements will receive a Certificate of Completion, a gift recognizing their accomplishment, and recognition at the annual Student Leadership and Recognition Banquet on Thursday, April 14. More details regarding this event will be posted on the University Activities webpage in February. Leadership On-the-Go

Interested in other ways to learn about leadership? Want your certificate, but your classes are at the same time as our presentations? Leadership On-the-Go opportunities give you the ability to read a book/article or watch a film and get workshop credits for writing a reflection. You can receive credit for up to three workshops using Leadership On-the-Go opportunities and new opportunities will be added regularly throughout Spring semester.
