First Year Experience Peer Mentor (Minimum 3.0 cumulative GPA)
The First Year Experience (FYE) peer mentor program aims to improve and enhance student success in the first year and beyond. Peer Mentors will give a “student’s point of view” of college life and act as a coach guiding students to appropriate campus resources. Peer mentors are open-minded, organized, educationally driven, have a positive attitude towards college life, participate in campus life, engaging, and are considered a role model.  The Peer Mentors will be linked with a specific course with enrolled mentees in order to provide assistance to the faculty member through participation, role modeling behavior, and following up with mentee’s that have missed or are falling behind in their studies. 

Responsibilities

Compensation: $500 stipend per semester

OMSA Peer Advisor
Peer Advisors in the Office of Multicultural Student Affairs serve as advocates for first year students by providing assistance with academic, social, and personal concerns. The Peer Advisors are not counselors, but know of resources that are available on the UW-Parkside campus.

Responsibilities

Compensation: $8.00/hour

 

Peer Health Educator
Peer Health Educators are responsible for identifying student needs and developing programs to help support the
UW-Parkside community in making responsible and healthy choices regarding the use of alcohol and other drugs, STI’s, relationships, body image, stress relief, etc. This position includes on-campus programming, with occasional opportunities for outreach in the local community.

Responsibilities

Compensation: $812 stipend per semester

 

Ranger Host
Ranger Hosts are responsible for assisting new students in their transition to university life during Ranger Days and Ranger Welcome.

Responsibilities

Compensation: $8.00/hour

 

Resident Advisor
Resident Advisors are responsible for approximately 50 students in a residence hall living unit. Resident Advisors assist and advise students with academic, social and personal growth. More importantly, Resident Advisors plan social and educational activities to assist residents in developing a community which fosters academic and social success.

Responsibilities

Compensation: A single room and meal plan for the academic year and a $250.00 stipend each semester.

 

Ready Rangers Role Model
Role Models are responsible for being a representative of the University for two 5th Grade classes in the Kenosha and Racine school districts.

Compensation:       $350 stipend per semester


AmeriCorps M3C Scholar Program
The Midwest Campus Compact Citizen-Scholar Fellows AmeriCorps Scholar Fellows Program is an AmeriCorps Education Award Program. Students complete 300 hours of community service in a calendar year for an educational award. The program strives to develop a peer network and provide support that enables students to serve as agents of civic engagement to respond effectively to community issues. It seeks to foster a deep appreciation and understanding of democratic values and citizenship among participants, and nurture the knowledge, skills, attitudes, and behaviors that lead to a lifelong commitment to civic engagement.

Requirements: To apply you must be 1) A first-year freshman or first semester sophomore at time of application; 2) A first-generation college student (neither parent has a 4-year degree) OR have a low-income status; 3) In good academic standing with a minimum 2.75 cumulative GPA ; 3) Make a year-long commitment for 2011-12; 4) A US citizen or permanent resident.

Responsibilities

Compensation: Students who are involved in this program receive an education award of $1,000 to use toward tuition, loan payments, etc. in return for 300 hours of community service.

 

Student Support Services (SSS) Career Coach Mentors
(You must be a Student Support Services student to apply for this position)
The SSS Career Coach Mentors work as facilitators of SSS TRIO (upper-class mentoring teams) in cooperation with the Career Development Coordinator and major faculty advisors to help engage student teams in the career development process specifically as it relates to: research, internships, resume building/writing, and graduate/professional programs.

Requirements: 1) Be an Student Support Services student with at least a junior standing for the 2011-12 academic year; 2) Be in good academic standing with a minimum 2.75 cumulative GPA; 3) Have a basic understanding of campus computer systems (D2L, Solar, Ranger Mail, etc) and resources.

Responsibilities:

Compensation: Mentors will receive up to a $150 stipend upon completion and documentation of the assigned responsibilities per semester.


Student Support Services (SSS) Peer Mentors
(You must be a Student Support Services student to apply for this position)
SSS Peer Mentors provide support services to first-year SSS students that follow a student’s developmental framework based on the student’s strengths and targeted areas for growth. These efforts are accomplished through both individual and team action plans to increase skills and proficiency with specific learning strategies, study strategies, and overall engagement in the first year of college.

Requirements: 1) Be an SSS student with at least a sophomore standing; 2) Be in good academic standing with a minimum 2.6 cumulative GPA.

Responsibilities:

Compensation: Mentors will receive a $150 stipend upon completion and documentation of the assigned responsibilities per semester.
