Creating and Assessing Quality Writing

This course is an in-depth study of writing instruction in the K – 6 classroom. Participants will learn about a quality lesson structure for instructing students in the writing process. Participants will gain an understanding of different writing genres, assessing student writing using a trait rubric, and how to implement a writing workshop in the classroom. In addition, participants will learn how technology can be used to support Smarter Balanced writing requirements.

 

Independent Learning Centers

"O.K., I'm finished.  Now what do I do?"  Never what to hear those words again.  In this online class, teachers will create independent learning centers for their students and submit evidence of student participation.

 

Math Intervention Strategies - Reaching and Teaching All Students

In this online class, teachers will explore a variety of resources and strategies that will enable them to provide various levels of intervention. These will include hands-on activities, games, websites, and classroom technologies, such as SMARTboards, iPads, etc. The focus will be on the Common Core State Standards for Mathematics - Mathematical Practices and Mathematical Content.

 

21st Century Tools for Teachers

21st Century Tools for Teachers will introduce educators of all technical backgrounds to free, web-based programs that will help increase student engagement and achievement.  Web 2.0 products are selected with the 21st century curriculum in mind and employ products that encourage complex communication, higher order thinking, and subject mastery.  This program is not text book driven but interactive and project based.  The products are simple and easy to use and enable the educator to walk away with products for their classrooms or other professional programs.
