The Educator Development Program is a crucial element of a larger vision - that of creating a regional 21st Century learning community in Southeastern Wisconsin, one that can meet the challenges posed by globalization, the IT revolution, resource constraints, and the need to build human capacity for innovation and development.
The University of Wisconsin-Parkside is a key partner in achieving this vision through the creation and implementation of a regional, responsive system of educator development. For the individual person, entry into the system begins from the moment a person decides "I want to be an educator" through the lifespan of their career.
As a leader in this endeavor, UW-Parkside created, in collaboration with partners in the civic, education, and business sectors of the community, the Institute of Professional Educator Development and the Educator Development Program. The process of designing and implementing the Institute demonstrates our commitment to provide "high quality academic programs rooted in the tradition of a liberal education in the arts, sciences and professions, responsive to the occupational, civic and cultural needs of the region, and actively seek the continued input of all stakeholders" (UW-Parkside Mission, 2010).
The Institute is the heart of educator development for the region. Through our programs, projects, and initiatives, we touch all learners in Southeastern Wisconsin, preparing them to be successful in their professional, civic, and personal lives.
