SENCER at UW-Parkside - Courses

Astrobiology

The SENCER process works well in linked courses:  Energy (ENVS 335) with Environmental Policy (POLS 302), and Environmental Justice (ENVS 336) with Sociology and the Environment (SOCA 379). Each pair of courses will have linked syllabi, which will treat topics of mutual interest from both a natural science and social science perspective.

Topics in the first sequence (ENVS 335/POLS 302) will include issues such as: coal vs. gas for generation of electricity; alternative energy sources; publicly vs. privately owned utilities; nuclear power plant proliferation and disposal of nuclear waste.

The Environmental Justice sequence (ENVS 336/SOCA 379) will treat issues such as: air quality, asthma, and demographics; brownfield reclamation and housing development, food quality, family farms, and native people; toxic waste disposal and processing; double standards for pesticide use in "first" and "third" world countries.
