New Theatre Plans
Building the Future: New $35 million Communication Arts Complex to Enhance All UWP Fine Arts Programs
In the fall of 2009 construction began on our new $35 million UW-Parkside Communication Arts building addition, which includes amazing new spaces for our thriving theatre, music, and art programs. Included in the new addition will be a state-of-the art 175 seat flexible studio theatre (see images), three new rehearsal spaces that can be used for smaller student productions, new laboratories and construction spaces for scenery and costumes, and new computer design labs. Also included in the project is a new music wing with a lovely 350 seat recital hall and many rehearsal and practice rooms which will also be utilized by theatre students interested in music. Our theatre students will also have access to the greatly expanded visual arts wing, which includes a wide range of studio and "creation spaces." The first spaces to be built in this massive expansion project will be the theatre and music wings, which we hope to occupy and utilize by the fall of 2011.
While our current facilities are outstanding, our incredible new facilities will indeed be some of the finest in the entire Midwest. We truly will emerge as a "center for the arts" in the Milwaukee/Chicago suburban corridor.
