Tonight: First “Public Speaking Night” in Cinema
Eight University of Wisconsin-Parkside students will step on stage at the Student Center Cinema tonight in a quest to win the first-ever Public Speaking Night contest. Presented by the Theater Arts Department's Speech Studies Program and faculty members Bonnie Peterson, Nicholas Ravnikar, and Michael Seyller, this battle of persuasion through oratory begins at 7 p.m.
Under the watchful of Racine County Executive James Ladwig and Kenosha County Executive's Chief of Staff Jennie Tunkieicz who are serving as judges, the contestants give persuasive speeches of six minutes in length on a topic appropriate for a general student/community audience. They must use PowerPoint and their speeches must contain a clear call to action.

Joel Trentadue, Biological Science
Judges will be looking for: accuracy of time, the call to action, extemporaneous style, eye contact, gestures, the PowerPoint, persuasive technique, supporting evidence, and vocal delivery. The contestants will be looking for bragging rights as the first-ever UW-Parkside Public Speaking Night victor and a $50 gas card.
