Learn about Professional Theatre on Location!

We believe that it is essential that you regularly SEE great professional theatre in order to be inspired to better appreciate, understand, and create great theatre!

As a department we are very committed to sponsoring inexpensive regular departmental theatre trips to the some of the world's greatest theatre communities, including New York City, London (England), Stratford (Canada), Chicago, and Milwaukee. We offer our students and our community members incredible opportunities to experience great theatre in incredibly diverse and culturally rich metropolitan centers-and the benefits of 'learning on location' are central to our department's academic, artistic, and cultural programming.

Regular trips offered by the UW-Parkside Theatre Arts Department include:

New York City/ Broadway Trip
At UW-Parkside we're committed to getting you to Broadway - one way or another! During spring break time in March members of the UW-Parkside Theatre Arts Department and friends from the community head to the 'Big Apple' for an incredible 8 day trip to the heart of the American theatre scene. These 8 day trips are offered at very reasonable prices and include round trip airfare from Milwaukee to NYC, ground transportation, 7 nights in the celebrated Edison Hotel just 45 seconds from Broadway and Times Square, 4 Broadway show tickets, and a number of special events, including theatre tours and post performance discussion with the Broadway performers and producers. For more information about the upcoming spring break trip to New York City contact Jennie Filippone at 262.595.2581 or at filippone@uwp.edu.

London & Paris Theatre Trip
Experience some of western Europe's oldest and most historically significant cultural and theater centers! Every other year during the winter break the Theatre Arts and UW-Parkside International Studies Department co-sponsor a 10 day fine arts tour to London, Paris, and other major European cultural destinations. This trip includes round trip transportation, hotels, meals, instructional materials, tours, theatre tickets, and museum passes. For more information regarding the next European Fine Arts Tour, please contact Consuelo Clemens (International Studies) at Clemens@uwp.edu or 262-595-3215.

Chicago & Milwaukee Theatre Trips
We've got some of America's finest theatre companies in our own 'back yard' and we definitely take advantage of our great location within 60 miles of over 200 professional theatres in the Chicago/Milwaukee cultural corridor. Each semester the Theatre Arts Department sponsors a minimum of four day trips to some of Chicago and Milwaukee's finest professional theatres, including the Steppenwolf Theatre, The Goodman Theatre, Chicago Shakespeare Theatre, Victory Gardens Theatre, The Milwaukee Repertory Theatre, and The Milwaukee Chamber Theatre. These professional theatre experiences are fully integrated into our teaching and production offerings and often include presentations by professional staffs at the theatres and back stage tours. This program offers an excellent, continuous opportunity for our theatre students, staff, and faculty to "connect" with the great theatres and theatre professionals in our area. Our connections to these professional theatres are invaluable as students prepare for internships, apprenticeships, and paid careers before and after graduation. For more information about upcoming trips, please contact Jennie Filippone, Theatre Arts Administrative Assistant.

Stratford (Canada) Festival Theatre Trip
Canada, our friendly neighbor to the north, offers some of the greatest theatre in North America-and the amazing Stratford Festival in Ontario is just a short bus ride away! The UW-Parkside Theatre Arts Department works closely with our friends at other area campuses to jump on the bus and head to the Stratford Festival during their fall seasons. These 3-4 day trips to the quant theatre town of Stratford, Ontario will open your eyes and minds as you experience bold classical theatre brought to life in fresh and vibrant ways. This relatively inexpensive trip to the north is a valuable way for students and faculty to experience international theatre on a limited budget. For more information about upcoming Stratford, Canada trips contact Lisa Kornetsky, Theatre Arts Chair, at 262.595.2352 or at kornetsk@uwp.edu .
