Other Lab Spaces

Design Lab/Lighting Lab

The design lab is a designated classroom providing space for work in stagecraft, scenic/lighting/costume design, and special craft and production classes throughout the year. Students in these classes have unlimited access to this space that is equipped with work/drafting tables, painting surfaces and sinks, supply storage cabinets and wireless access with projection capabilities.

Adjacent to the design lab is a lighting lab equipped with a 1:1 miniature stage, 40 miniature lighting instruments and a 96 channel light board. This is used in the instruction of lighting design students and production assistants to explore lighting possibilities for classroom projects and departmental productions. This gives lighting students a tool that provides endless possibilities to hone their skills and sharpen their eye.

In addition to this space, the Library Computer Lab, equipped with 30 Macintosh G5 computers, is available for supplementary/complimentary computer assisted design (CAD) for various design project assignments.

The Production Office

All students who are assigned Stage Management positions, properties work or Scenic/Lighting/Costume Design production assignments have access to and are expected to work in the theatre production office. The office is equipped with computers accompanied by appropriate hardware and software to design digitally in all areas of the theatre. This provides production personnel a private space to work and collaborate. Student Stage Managers and Designers are assigned specific workstations, are expected to communicate, design, store and share their drawings and forms on one of the computers in the office.

Studio B

Slightly smaller than  Studio A, this studio is a also rehearsal room, classroom and performance space.  It features full length mirrors, windows to the hallway, curtains a dance bar, a projection screen and smartboard technology..  This space has it’s own mini lighting board.  It measures  24’x30’ (720 square feet)  and has a tile and wood floor, and will seat 50 people comfortably. It is an adaptable space for rehearsal and small performances.
