Elise Dunton

What is your favorite quote?
"Do it big or stay in bed. " Put the maxium effort into all your undertakings. It pays off.

What do you want your legacy at UW-Parkside to be? I wish to serve as an example for the future students. They should know that college isn't merely about book smarts, but about personal development. I want them to see that bt taking an active role in their education they can derive from Parkside an excellent education, both inside the classroom and as individuals.

What is the most rewarding aspect of your leadership position? Although we work on Amnesty International's official campaigns, I am able to direct action towards causes I am passionate about and consider pressing.

Why do you think it is important to get involved? The benefits are two-fold. Becoming involved with an organization allows integration into the campus community and enriches the overall college experience.

What leadership skills or accomplishment(s) are you most proud of? I am most proud of my work as an interpreter for humanitarian missions in Latin America. On the surface, theese experiences benefited the communitiies with which I worked. Yet. I believe the greatest reward came to me through personal growth.

What is the best part about being a memeber/leader of Amnesty International? People temd towards apathy. Let's face it, it's easy to close your eyes and turn away when confronted with the unfortunate reality of human suffering. My work with Amnesty International provides me the opportunity to motivate people not only yo care, but to act.

If you were recruiting students to attend UW-Parkside, what would you tell them? Parkside has received the unfortunate label of 'Community College of the UW-System'. This could not be farther from the truth. The faculty at Parkside is nothing short of phenomenal. The small school atmosphere allows for one-on-one interactions with lecturers who are completely dedicated to stretching your mind as far as it will go.

ICan you recommend a good book and why? Life of Pi by Yann Martel. Martel's subtle humor and storytelling ability make this an easy, yet thought provoking, read.

Who is your role model and why? I have three: my father, Dr. Peggy Ann James, and Mrs. Kuljit K. Bedi. They share the inspiring characteristics of being goal-oriented, confident people of integrity. Each, in his or her own way, is a force to be reckoned with.
