Nyzuria Conners - Upward Bound - Student Office Assistant

Nyzuria Conners is a senior here at the University of Wisconsin-Parkside. She is a double major in both Communication and English after graduation she plans to attend graduate school and obtain a Master’s in Education. Growing up in Milwaukee, she is fully aware of how many challenges there are for students to go to college and to become successful thus lead to the reasons why she chooses to dedicate her life to that cause.
At UW-Parkside she has been involved as a Upward Bound mentor, a resident advisor, a ranger host, and has served on the boards for several organizations. She truly enjoys the experiences and opportunities that college has to offer and loves to get others involved too. In her spare time when she is not doing homework or working, she likes to listen to music, see plays and movies, and write.
Office Hours: Monday - 9:00 to 2:00 pm & Wednesday 9:00 to 12:00 pm

Rebecca Shaw- Upward Bound - Office Assistant - Special Projects

Rebecca Shaw is a recent graduate of the University of Wisconsin-Parkside. She received her bachelor’s degree in Psychology, a Mental Health certificate, and a Global Skills certificate in May 2011.  Rebecca plans to continue her education at Carthage in the summer. There she will pursue her Masters in Social Work in hopes of one day becoming a Licensed Clinical Social Worker. As a Parkside Alumni she has become a big part of the Upward Bound program as a tutor, mentor and special projects office assistant. Building relationships with these students is an experience she holds dear and hopes to gain skills for her future endeavors. Rebecca was born and raised in Racine, WI and plans to help her local community and others around the world. She has always had a big heart for those less fortunate and wants to make a difference in the lives of others. As a high school student Rebecca was always volunteering in her community. From collecting coats for a coat drive to spending time with the elderly at nursing homes.  Helping others find and fulfill their hopes and dreams provides Rebecca with enjoyment in the fact that she can make a difference. She feels it establishes a sense of purpose in her life, a place to grow herself and play a part in this world, and helps her to get closer to the person she was meant to become.

Shar'mane Martin - Upward Bound - Student Office Assistant

Shar'mane Martin is a junior at the University of Wisconsin-Parkside. Her major consist of Psychology with a minor in Ethnic Studies in hoping to become a psychologist.  She came to University of Wisconsin-Parkside from Illinois and Florida because her dad is in the army. Throughout her years here at Parkside, she has tried her best to stay involved and grow into her student leadership roles. She always enjoyed the networking opportunity and getting a chance to know new people. Some of her extra-curricular activities are Chaos hip-hop dance team; in which she holds the secretary position; in addition to assisting with the coordination of many programs for Parkside to keep them entertained when attending an event. She also conducted community service projects that consisted of serving the homeless and entertaining them to keep them comfortable. Some of her hobbies consist of singing, dancing, reading her bible, helping others with their problems and hanging out with family. Shar'mane is very excited to be working as an Office Assistant and Tutor for the University of Wisconsin Parkside Upward Bound Program. Her number one main concern is to guide and direct the students that she tutors and work with what they need in life. Upward Bound makes differences in students life's and gives them a chance to shine educationally, mentally, and emotionally.
