The Health, Exercise Science and Sport Management Department at the University of Wisconsin Parkside invites applications for a tenure-track Assistant Professor of Sport Management position scheduled to start in the 2016-2017 academic year.

Qualifications

Required:

  • Earned terminal degree (Ph.D., Ed.D, J.D.) with focus in the sport management field, required by the time of appointment. All But Dissertation (A.B.D.) status candidates will be considered for a one-year appointment to a Lecturer position with potential conversion to a tenure-track Assistant Professor position possible if the terminal degree is completed by June 1, 2017.  
  • Demonstrated ability to teach a variety of courses at the undergraduate and graduate levels as assigned by the HESM Department in the sport management field. Among the courses currently scheduled to be taught by this position include: Ethics and Issues in Sport Management, Legal Issues in Sport and Fitness Management, Sports Industry Regulation, Facility Development and Management, and Fieldwork (internship) in Sport Management.
  • Demonstrated ability to develop and maintain an active service agenda in the department, campus, community and profession.
  • Demonstrated ability to develop and maintain an active research agenda.

Preferred:

  • Demonstrated commitment to excellence in teaching, maintaining high expectations of undergraduate and graduate education and developing student professionalism.
  • Evidence of ability to potentially teach or develop additional courses related to the sport management field including Athletic Fundraising, Event Management, Introduction to Exercise Science and Sport Management, Advanced Sport Management, Sport Sales and Customer Service, and/or Senior Seminar in Sport Management.
  • Evidence of ability to develop potential fieldwork (internship) placement sites.
  • Experience in advising undergraduate students in sport management or a related field of study.
  • Evidence of ability to work effectively with a diverse student population.
  • Experience in the sports industry.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

  • Primary responsibilities include: teaching, advising undergraduate and graduate students in sport management, supervising fieldwork (internship) placements, scholarly research activity, and participating in departmental/campus/community/professional service.
  • The incumbent will have a teaching load of 24 credits per academic year in the core courses of the Sport Management major and in upper division elective courses. The successful candidate will contribute to teaching undergraduate coursework in ethical and legal issues in sport management and fitness management, sports industry regulation and event management.

The University and Area

The University of Wisconsin-Parkside is a comprehensive campus of the University of Wisconsin System with approximately 4800 students, 120 faculty, and 70 instructional academic staff offering 33 undergraduate majors and 3 master's degrees in 22 academic departments. The campus is located between the cities of Kenosha and Racine in southeastern Wisconsin, within the Chicago-Milwaukee corridor. 

The university is situated on 700 acres of prairie and woodland approximately two miles west of Lake Michigan. Consisting of 15 buildings, the coherence and unity of the original campus design within its natural landscape has been sustained over four decades of development. Recent additions include a renovated and expanded student center, a 250 bed suite-style residence hall, and a greatly expanded and renovated center for the arts and humanities.
