The College of Arts and Humanities is excited to be welcoming three new faculty members in the Fall: Kristen Bartel, Assistant Professor of Printmaking and Digital Photography; Doug Singsen, Assistant Professor of Art History; and Laura Rexroth, Assistant Professor of Music and Director of Bands.

Bartel comes to UWP with an MFA from Southern Illinois University and teaching experience at the University of Wyoming. She has a strong background in traditional printmaking but in her art, she combines those print techniques with drawing video, photography, and digital media “as a means to conceptual ends,” exploring “the chaotic and often contradictory nature of our relationships with each other, our landscapes, climates and notions of beauty.”

Singsen earned his Art History Ph.D. from the City University of New York in 2013 and specializes in contemporary art, specifically in graphic novels and alternative comics, which offers some exciting connections to our forthcoming Fall art exhibit on comics, as well as other departments and courses in the college. Rexroth has a doctorate from Indiana University’s Jacobs School of Music and taught at the University of Massachusetts Amherst before coming to UWP. Her ensembles have been consistently praised for warmth of tone, musicality, and great care for the composer's intent.  In addition to regularly scheduled concerts, her bands have performed for numerous special occasions and guests, including Jane Goodall, Warren Burger, Lady Margaret Thatcher and HRH Prince Charles.

We look forward to what these new faculty members will bring to our university community.
