An Art in the Library exhibit entitled "Charles Nicholas Johnson Slide Collection: Color Photos of Japan 1955-1957" will be on display March 18-April 30 in the University of Wisconsin-Parkside Library. The event will be the first of the "Selections from the UW-Parkside Digital Collections" annual exhibit.

Photographer Charles Johnson was a U.S. Army non-commissioned officer stationed in Tokyo from 1954 to 1957. His color images capture everyday life in Japan, urban scenes, landscapes and representations of Japanese culture. A selection of prints, chosen for composition and diverse subject matter, will be on display.

The public is invited to opening receptions at noon and 6 p.m. Wednesday, March 18. Jeff Alexander, associate professor of history and associate dean of the UW-Parkside College of Social Sciences and Professional Studies will introduce the exhibit. Melissa Olson, digital initiatives librarian, will be available to answer questions about the digitization process and preservation of photographic materials.
