The Laramie Project

Matthew Shepard, a 21 year old university student in Laramie, Wyoming was murdered simply because he was gay. This book speaks to an oral history of the actual stories and experiences of the residents of Laramie as they deal with Matthew’s death and its profound impact on their lives and community. The 60 Laramie citizens portrayed in the book come alive as individuals residing in a highly charged aftermath. Issues such as community, sexual politics, class differences, homophobia, hate crimes, religion, justice and tolerance versus acceptance are discussed throughout the book.
