D2L Overview
Login Page
Although Desire2Learn (D2L) has replace the WebCT and Blackboard systems,
Its workings share many similarities. First you are presented with a login
page. The login and password is the same as Parkside e-mail.
Portal Page
After the Login screen there is a portal page referred to as the My Home
page. It has some navigation options in a gray bar across the top of the
screen. The logout option is always on the lower gray bar at the far right.
The main part of the screen has content addressing the following options:
- Welcome: set personal preferences
- News: for system wide announcements
- My Parkside Courses: listing of
all courses you are enrolled in for the current semester.
In the My Parkside Courses box, click
on the link that represents the course you want to enter. This takes you
to the Course Homepage.
Course Homepage
Course navigation is done in the lower gray bar below the course title.
Although the course homepage can be customized by the instructor the typical
navigation bar would include the following links:
Course Home | Content | Links | Classlist | Discussions | Chat | Dropbox
| Quizzes | Grades
Faculty will see an additional Edit Course link. Other than that the look
of the page for faculty and students is almost identical.
Most of your work will likely be done in the content area which is found
by clicking on the Content link.
The main part of the Course Homepage
screen has content addressing the following options:
- Updates: Identifies the number
of new Discussion Board Posts. Faculty are provided with additional
information regarding the number of New Submissions to the homework
Dropbox and Ungraded Quizzes
- Events : Calendar information appears here.
- News: Faculty can create course related news topics
here.
- My Parkside Courses: Link to other course homepages
- Bookmarks: Link to bookmarks you have saved within
a D2L course
Follow the links at left to find out more about a specific
D2L feature or attend a
D2L Workshop Session.
