Inauguration Week Events Nov. 3-7
The University of Wisconsin-Parkside celebrates Inauguration Week Nov. 3-7 with a series of campus events. Held in conjunction with the installation and investiture of Dr. Deborah Ford on Friday, Nov. 6, the events highlight student success, faculty research, and community engagement, ending with a gala anniversary program. All events are open to the public.
Inauguration Week begins Tuesday, Nov. 3 with "A Celebration of Student Success." At noon in Main Place of Wyllie Hall, Dr. Ford speaks briefly on "Student Success and the Importance of Mentors." She then leads a procession of student groups to the Student Center where, at 12:30 p.m. in the Ballroom, a panel of UW-Parkside graduates discusses factors contributing to career success. The panel includes Johnson Financial Group Vice President Carmen Tenuta, McNair Academy's Bryan Lyday, Kenosha Co. Treasurer Teri Jacobson, Racine Unified TeacherKathy Dever, Modine Manufacturing's Sabha Museteif, and Rick Gearheart of Unico.
Wednesday, Nov. 4, the university's "Celebration of Academic Excellence" showcases faculty, staff, and student research and creative activity. In addition to a daylong display of student and faculty research in the main concourse, a noon discussion is held on academic excellence. The discussion features faculty members Fay Akindes, Jeffrey Alexander, Dirk Baldwin, Robert Barber, Patricia Cleary, Cathleen Folker, James Kinchen, Vera Kolb, Penny Lyter, and Jonathan Olsen and is held in the Student Center Ballroom.
Thursday's "Celebration of Community Engagement" begins at 8:30 a.m. with the presentation of Community-Based Learning Awards. Programs on entrepreneurism with Matt Wagner, engagement through professional development and environmental initiatives, volunteering and sustainability, and marketing for nonprofits continue throughout the day in the Student Center.
The installation and investiture ceremony for Chancellor Ford is Friday, Nov. 6
beginning at 1:30 p.m. in the Student Center Cinema. The ceremony is also shown live in the Student Center Ballroom.
The festivities conclude Saturday, Nov. 7 with the UW-Parkside 40th Anniversary Gala. The university honors long-time community leaders Fran Jaeschke, Rita Tallent Picken, and Harriet Wyllie. The evening also includes music, fine dining, and the chance to win a diamond pendant designed exclusively for the 40th Anniversary Gala.
