Friends of the Library Book Sale Nov. 14-16

A literary tradition continues this Wednesday, Thursday, and Friday when the Friends of the University of Wisconsin-Parkside Library holds its annual book sale. From 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Wednesday, Nov. 14, and Thursday, Nov. 15, and 9 a.m. to noon Friday, Nov. 16, book aficionados can pick up hardcover volumes for $2, softcovers for $1.50, and paperbacks for 50 cents each. The first three hours of the sale, Wednesday from 9 a.m. to noon, are open only to UW-Parkside students, faculty, and staff with a Ranger Card. Sale proceeds are used to fund library improvements and the finance guest lectures throughout the year.

Native American Heritage Month Speak Out: Indian Mascots & Logos

Society is constantly exposed to inaccurate and demeaning images of American Indians. But logos and mascots are just part of the problem. During the program "American Indian Logos & Mascots: Only the Tip of the Problem of Continuing Racism Against American Indians," our HR colleague Rita Altmeyer takes a look at the pervasive stereotypical and racist images from the past and present, and in Wisconsin. Stop by the Walnut Room of the Student Center Wednesday at noon for this free discussion.

Art x 2: Pair of exhibitions debut this week

Starting Tuesday and Thursday this week, new art exhibitions grace the Fine Arts and Mathis Galleries.

In Fine Arts, Adam Trowbridge's and Jessica Westbrook's "Channel TWo: Episodes" exhibition opens Tuesday, Nov. 13 and continues through Dec. 16. This is a multi-screen interactive video installation that uses gaming technology and features virtual landscapes. There's an artists' talk Thursday, Nov. 15, from 5?6 p.m. on the collaborative partnership working with art and technology. That's in RITA 131. The opening reception is Friday, Nov. 16, from 5?7 p.m.

In the Mathis Gallery, "Todd Deutsch, Gamers" opens Thursday, Nov. 15, and continues through Jan. 26, 2013. Deutsch presents images of technological rapture in "Gamers," a series of photographs taken at a video game conference featuring lone gamers playing their elaborate equipment in darkened conference rooms. Opening reception is Saturday, Nov. 10, from 2?5 p.m.

Admission is free. Gallery hours are Mondays noon-4 p.m., Tuesdays and Wednesdays noon-6 p.m., Thursdays noon-8 p.m., and Saturdays noon-4 p.m.

Friday: Take control of your time

Academic and Classified Staff are invited to a special workshop on time management. Take the time to learn from the time management experts: our students! Nicole Redmond, a bank regional manager, mother, and full time student; and Maria Acuna, restaurant hostess and cashier and full time student offer ideas on how to manage your precious minutes. Come to the Poplar Room of the Student Center at noon and spend 45 minutes that could save you agony?and hours!

Academic Advising on the Bridge

If students can't go to advisors, advisors go to students! The Advising and Career Center takes its show on the road to the Student Center Bridge Tuesday, Nov. 13; Wednesday, Nov. 14; and again Monday, Nov. 19 and Tuesday, Nov. 20 from 11:30-1 p.m. No appointment is needed.
