UW-Parkside holding Picken Scholarship Competition

The University of Wisconsin-Parkside welcomes

The scholarships are made possible by the generosity of Kathleen "Kitty" Picken. In addition to naming the Rita Tallent Picken Regional Center for Arts and Humanities for her stepmother, Picken's $3.5 million contribution also made assisting students financially a priority.

"One of the key components of the donation was to develop an arts and humanities scholarship," said Dr. Dean Yohnk, dean of UW-Parkside's College of Arts and Humanities. "This is the first year we will be having the Picken Arts and Humanities Scholarship Day Competition."

Dr. Yohnk said students who have applied to and been accepted by UW-Parkside, and have completed the online application are eligible for scholarship consideration. Visit the Admissions web site to complete the Scholarship Day survey and for talent requirements. Students who apply for the scholarships are expected to attend the Scholarship Day event Saturday, March 16.

UW-Parkside Associate Vice Chancellor for Enrollment Management DeAnn Possehl said Scholarship Day events allow students to explore "The Rita," examine career opportunities, and gain a better understanding of the arts and humanities experience at UW-Parkside.

"We have an incredible facility, we have great faculty, and these scholarships will help us to attract the best and brightest to become students at UW-Parkside. This funding for students in the arts and humanities will help make UW-Parkside an educational reality for many students," Possehl said.

Yohnk said the March 16 Scholarship Day event will be filled with students interviewing and auditioning for the scholarship as well as entertaining activities for students and parents throughout the day. Recipients of the Picken Arts and Humanities Scholarships will be announced that afternoon. A number of other scholarships also will be announced that day.
