Vera Kolb

Vera Kolb, Professor of Chemistry, was selected as one of 16 participants in "The Advanced Chemistry of Art Workshop," held in Villanova, Pa., June 6-12. The workshop was sponsored by the National Science Foundation's Chemistry Collaborations, Workshops, and Communities of Scholars program. Prof. Kolb is now working on developing an experiment on synthesis and analysis of "Maya Blue" for her Advanced Organic Laboratory. Maya Blue is an azure blue pigment originally manufactured by Maya and Aztec. Its structure is only recently elucidated as a composite of indigo and a clay palygorskite.
