Lyall helped Parkside grow, Chancellor Keating says

The University of Wisconsin-Parkside will lose a friend with the retirement of the university system's president.

(UW-)Parkside Chancellor John Keating said on Wednesday that UW System President Katherine C. Lyall, who hired him some five years ago, has been supportive of the local campus.

"When I came here, Parkside had enrollment and other problems, and those seem to be resolved with her encouragement," he said. "She has been supportive in ways to help Parkside flourish.

"She saw Parkside as one of the growing stars in the university system. I'm sad to see her go."

The chancellor agreed that Lyall was an administrator who brought cohesiveness to a system that had some 15 independent campuses.

"She was the one who advanced that idea and was the foundation of it," Keating said.

Keating said he didn't anticipate major changes for Parkside when Lyall leaves.

"I do anticipate changes because the Board of Regents will be charting the future of the university system," Keating said.

"That is an ongoing study by the board, which will look at further ways to collaborate and effectively use our resources."
