Nov. 3-7: Celebrate Inauguration Week, 40th Gala
University of Wisconsin-Parkside faculty, staff, and students are invited and encouraged to join in the events and activities of the Inauguration of Chancellor Deborah L. Ford November 3-7, 2009. The official installation and investiture ceremony will be held on Friday, Nov. 6 in the Student Center. The 40th Anniversary and Inaugural Gala, titled "Celebrate the Past - Embrace the Future," is Saturday, Nov. 7 in the University Ballroom. To celebrate the past, the university honors three very special women who have played prominent roles in the heart and history of UW-Parkside: Mrs. Frances Jaeschke, Mrs. Rita Tallent Picken, and Mrs. Harriet Wyllie.
To embrace the future, Trenton Baylor and the faculty of the Art Department have assembled an extraordinary exhibition of some of the best art works from our current students and faculty; Alvaro Garcia and the students of the Camerata will treat us to selections from their exquisite orchestral repertoire during the Gala reception, and Ami Bouterse and her troupe of exceptionally talented UW-Parkside vocal students will perform a revue of iconic songs from the last 40 years, interwoven with significant events and people in UW-Parkside's history. There will laughter and tears, and tears of laughter.
For dining, Chef Joe and his staff are putting together not just a meal, but a repast that will linger in your mind long past the event. The menu will be added to the Gala web page soon.
Plus, there is a spectacular raffle: Judy K. Olsen, UW-Parkside alumna and president of Plumb Gold, Ltd., has created a one-of-a-kind pendant exclusively for the Gala valued at $6,500! The pendant features a ¾ carat, Fair Trade diamond. You may purchase raffle tickets, even if you are not able to attend the Gala. Only 200 tickets will be sold to increase your chances of winning!
Everyone is welcome but seating is limited (250 guests) and reservation are required. Tickets are $100 and table sponsorship (includes a table for 8 and recognition in the Gala program booklet): $1,000. All proceeds go to student scholarships.
