Oct. 22 Go ‘Around the World in 90 Minutes’ at UWP
The University of Wisconsin-Parkside welcomes award-winning author Marty Essen and his high-energy show "Around the World in 90 Minutes" to campus Thursday, Oct. 22. Held in the Student Center Cinema on the campus located at 900 Wood Rd, Kenosha, the program begins at 3 p.m.
Started as a show Essen presented on his first book tour and then extensively refined, "Around the World in 90 Minutes" features interesting facts and humorous stories from the author's world travels. Essen discusses swimming with piranhas, kayaking in the rainforest, rafting with humpback whales, surviving a hippo attack in Zimbabwe, and many other adventures. Add in the best of the thousands of photos he took while creating the book "Cool Creatures, Hot Planet: Exploring the Seven Continents" and this is an unforgettable journey filled with humor and excitement.
"This is a show where people will have fun laughing at the stories and 'oohing' and 'aahing' at his amazing photographs," said UW-Parkside Student Activities Coordinator Tony Kwiatkowski. "Then, when it's done, they'll realize how much they've learned."
Essen packs "Around the World in 90 Minutes" with amazing animal facts and debunks animal myths; he includes charging elephants and howling wolves, deadly snakes and friendly penguins, bizarre creatures and endangered species, and much more.
He has received multiple awards for travel and essay writing including the Benjamin Franklin Award, the Best Books Book Award, and the National Indie Excellence Award. In addition, he won a first place award at the 2009 Green Book Festival in Los Angeles, and the Minneapolis Star-Tribune named "Cool Creatures, Hot Planet" a top-10 "green" book.
"Around the World in 90 Minutes" is free and open to the public. For more information, call 262-595-2279.Publish date: 10/13/2009
