Celebrate Dr. Martin Luther King Jr., with us! |
The University of Wisconsin-Parkside invites everyone to join the celebration of Dr. Martin Luther King's life and legacy Friday, Jan. 20. Using the theme "A Message for Every Generation," this evening of speeches to stir the soul, music, and remembrance begins at 7 p.m. in the Main Stage Theatre of the beautiful new Rita Tallent Picken Regional Center for Arts and Humanities. Admission is free.
UW-Parkside Office of Multicultural Students Affairs Director Damian Evans calls this annual event "An exciting opportunity for the local community youth to share the influence Dr. King has had on their lives. It's also an opportunity for local communities to come together and honor Dr. Martin Luther King Jr., and his message for every generation!" Evans said.
During the program, two area citizens who have given exemplary service to others receive the 2012 UW-Parkside Community Service Awards. A university student or student organization will be honored with the UW-Parkside Service Award. In addition, K-12 students from the Kenosha Unified School District and the Racine Unified School District receive awards for their artwork and essays.
The Dr. Martin Luther King Jr., celebration "A Message for Every Generation" is open to the public. It is sponsored by the university's Office of Multicultural Student Affairs.
