Ranger athletics: basketball, track & field

This weekend, the UW-Parkside Ranger basketball teams are back home for games against Great Lakes Valley Conference opponents while the track and field crew kicks off its indoor season across town at Carthage College.

Tonight and Saturday afternoon, the basketball teams face GLVC Western Division rivals the University of Illinois Springfield and Quincy University. Tonight's women's game with the Prairie Stars starts at 5:30 p.m. while the men's game tips off at 7:30. Saturday's games with the Hawks from Quincy tip off at 1 p.m. for the women's game and at 3 p.m. for the men.   

Track & field coach Micah VanDenendwon't have drive the school vans very far to get to his team's season-opening meet. Just about four miles to the east where UW-Parkside will compete in the Carthage College Invitational. The squad begins a busy stretch building toward the GLVC indoor championships Feb. 24-25 at the Petretti Fieldhouse at UW-Parkside.
