The University of Wisconsin-Parkside hosts its second annual Bilingual Open House Saturday, Jan. 21, on the campus at 900 Wood Rd. in Kenosha. Featuring motivational speaker and comedienne Shayla Rivera, this informative session takes place from 9 a.m.-1 p.m. and is free and open to high school students considering college and their parents, and adults interested in pursuing a degree.

"During the open house, we'll talk about how to prepare for college and ways to get financial aid. On-site admission will be available as well," said UW-Parkside Admissions Counselor Mirella Rivera. "Plus everyone has the chance to be inspired by and laugh along with Shayla Rivera."

After graduating from Texas A&M University with a degree in aerospace engineering, Shayla Rivera worked for NASA on the space shuttle and space station projects. Leaving that career to pursue her interest in psychology, Rivera became a motivational speaker before trying her hand at comedy. Her one-woman show "Rocket Science and Salsa" successfully toured the country, and she has headlined shows for Univision, Galavision, and on "The Latinos Comedy Jam" on Telemundo.

Students seeking on-site admission during the UW-Parkside bilingual open house must bring a completed application (online or paper version), their official high school transcripts, and a copy of their American College Testing (ACT) or Scholastic Aptitude Test (SAT) scores.

For more information, call the UW-Parkside Admissions Department at 262-595-2355.
