Noteworthy: Miss America mentors
Miss America 2012 is Kenosha resident Laura Kaeppeler. And what makes her win in Las Vegas even more exciting is that she is a Mentor Kenosha & Racine mentor!
"She came to one of our 'Introduction to Mentoring' workshops last year and has met with Mark [Gesner] and I to discuss starting a mentoring program of her own," said MKR Coordinator Crista Kruse. "We're very excited for her!
Mark Gesner is the director of community development in UW-Parkside's Center for Community Partnerships.
Kaeppeler was on the agenda for this Friday's "Quality counts: Making a positive impact with youth" mentoring conference but "she thought it would be too risky for timing if she won the crown this weekend," Kruse said.
Attendees from Chicago, Milwaukee, Madison, the Green Bay area, Fond du Lac, Sheboygan, and other Wisconsin locations will be on campus Friday, Jan. 20, from 8:30 a.m. to 4 p.m. for the programThe conference is keynoted by James Conway, a senior trainer from the Search Institute. A full day of workshop sessions follows Conway's address.
Cost of the workshop is $95, ($30 for students) and attendance is limited to 150.
