Alumni February events help beat the Winter Blues
UW-Parkside alumni can help cure winter's nagging cabin fever by taking two doses of event fun in February.
First, alumni and friends can join the after-work scene and do a little mingling and networking at the third in the UW-Parkside Alumni Association's popular new "Alumni After Hours" series on Thursday, Feb. 2, in the 20 & Oakes Room at the Racine Marriott. Included on the agenda are door prizes, complimentary appetizers and drinks offered at happy-hour prices. The party is on from 5 to 7 p.m. The Marriott is located at 7111 Washington Avenue (Highway 20) in Racine.
Then family, fun, and basketball are the key ingredients in the UWPAA's annual "Alumni Day at the Basketball Games" event, which follows two days later Saturday, Feb. 4, at the Sports and Activity Center. For this event, alumni and families are treated to free admission to the Ranger men's and women's games. In addition, they can participate in an "Indoor Tailgate with the Chancellor" party, featuring a warming chili lunch, snacks, and brats and burgers during the afternoon, along with a special opportunity to shop for Ranger gear on Saturday at the campus bookstore in the Student Center, where special discounts will prevail.
The family-oriented tailgate party takes place in the Frank J. Petretti Fieldhouse Overlook area in the SAC, beginning with a welcome from Chancellor Debbie Ford and Alumni Association President Jim Kramer. Complimentary chili and accompaniments will be served from noon to 1 p.m. Also on tap for the afternoon are Coach's Chalk Talks, a kids' area with Ranger Bear (bring your cameras, parents) and other fun activities, prize drawings, 50/50 Raffle, and the brats-and-burgers party.
Alums and their families must register for the "Alumni Day at the Basketball Games" event in advance. To register, call Peppy O'Neill, Alumni Relations Manager, by Tuesday, Jan. 31, at 262-595-2233 or access oneillp@uwp.edu by email.
