Rita grand opening “magazine” hits news stands

A special publication highlighting the grand opening of the Rita Tallent Picken Regional Center for Arts and Humanities was included in Monday's Kenosha News, and today's Journal Times. The publication is also being mailed to UW-Parkside alumni and friends of the university, and will appear in this week's Southern Lakes newspapers distributed in the western area of Kenosha and Racine counties.

"The Rita is a beautiful building, and the photography we've featured by Michael Candee, Darris Lee Harris, and Don Lintner does an amazing job of showing it off," said John Mielke, who coordinates marketing communications in University Relations. "The stories show the connection The Rita has with the cultural and economic vitality of southeastern Wisconsin and how it elevates the academic experience for our students. But one of my favorite parts is the Rita Tallent Picken time line created by John Valaske. To me it tells a story of what Rita means to this university and why having her name on this particular building is so appropriate."

In addition to the media distribution, the publication will be available Saturday evening, Jan. 28, during the dedication ceremony and grand opening celebration. The dedication ceremony begins at 5 p.m. in the Main Stage Theatre. Because seating is limited, anyone planning to attend the dedication is asked to register at uwp.edu keyword: Rita.

The grand opening celebration begins at 7 p.m. and features more than 30 presentations by arts and humanities departments at the university. The presentations are scheduled at 7, 7:30 and 8 p.m. allowing visitors to attend more than one event. Register for the grand opening at uwp.edu keyword: Grand Opening.
