Community Band rehearsals start Jan. 26 at 7 p.m. |
The University of Wisconsin-Parkside Community Band invites area musicians to participate in its weekly rehearsals starting at 7 p.m., Thursday, Jan. 26, and its spring concert schedule with performances in February and May. Now entering its 22nd year under the baton of conductor and founder Mark Eichner, the band gives area adult instrumentalists an outlet for their artistic expression and opportunities for personal growth.
Professor Eichner said participation in rehearsals is considered vital.
"The band has set high performance standards for itself. To meet these high standards, a commitment to practice is expected," Eichner said.
No audition is required, he added. Spring concert dates are Saturday, Feb. 25 and Thursday, May 3.
The Community Band's repertoire includes traditional band music as well as baroque and classical pieces, marches, theater music, and contemporary selections. Band members include music educators, students, and adults from every walk of life. Eichner sees the band as a way to bring a talented and diverse group of musicians together for the sheer enjoyment of playing.
"We perform quality music from all style periods simply for the pleasure and satisfaction of music-making," he stated.
Rehearsals are held in room D-184 of the university's new Rita Tallent Picken Regional Center for Arts and Humanities every Thursdays from 7 to 9:15 p.m. Musicians can participate on a no-fee, no-credit basis. University credit is available.
For more information and a complete schedule of rehearsals, call Professor Eichner at 262-595-2438.
