Women of Color Award call for nominations
The University of Wisconsin-Parkside Center for Women's and Gender Studies and the Office of Diversity and Inclusion are seeking nominations for the 17th annual UW System Outstanding Women of Color in Education Awards. Recent UW-Parkside award recipients include April Puryear in 2011, Fay Akindes in 2010, and Maria Martinez in 2009.
The award is given to a woman who has worked in women's studies scholarship and activism, serving to improve the status and climate for women, particularly for women of color; advocated for women, particularly women of color; consistently demonstrated the ability to rally diverse forces together to advance the agenda of women, particularly that of women of color; and created positive changes at the institutional level, i.e., curriculum development and infusion, receiving grants, and mentoring women; and/or demonstrated an understanding of the interplay of family and community and culture in the lives of women of color.
Nominees can be faculty, students, staff, or community members.
One honoree will be selected from our campus. She will be recognized during the joint Wisconsin Women's Studies Conference and the LGBTQ Conference being held Oct. 6, 2012, at UW-Oshkosh. More information is available on the web site.
Nominate someone or nominate yourself, by completing a one-page summary explaining why the nominee's contributions to diversity and women's studies merit this award. All nominations must be typed and emailedto diversity@uwp.edubefore Feb. 10, 2012.
