Web site helps students meet voting requirements
The University of Wisconsin System has launched a new web site to help students understand and comply with new voting regulations that take effect during the primary election Feb. 21. The changes affect voter registration, minimum residency requirements (28 days), what qualifies as valid ID at the polls, and more.
The web site offers:
- Basic information and timelines about the new voter registration process
- Valid ID options students can use to register, and to vote
- Links to campus-specific information on voter ID compliant student cards and enrollment verification documents (enrollment verification is required if students use a campus voter ID card)
- Answers to frequently asked questions, and more
While the web site provides detailed information, it is not meant to address every voting situation a student may face. If students have questions not covered on the web site, they should contact the Government Accountability Board, their local municipal clerk (contact information is available on the GAB web site), or the UW-Parkside Student Affairs office.
Other available resources are the UW System's overview of the Voter ID law and guidance on political campaign activities at UW System institutions.
The web site was created with the help of the UW System Student Affairs and Academic Support office and the UW System's legal staff with cooperation from the Government Accountability Board.
