UW-Parkside women's CC receives academic honors

The UW-Parkside women's cross country team has been honored as a 2011 Division II All-Academic squad by the United States Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches Association (USTFCCCA).

"It's so great for our women's cross country team to be recognized for their job well done in the classroom," said head coach Micah VanDenend. "We certainly understand that, although athletics are an important part of the college experience, they are here to get an education. "

The Rangers compiled a team grade point average of 3.38 in the fall semester, easily surpassing the benchmark number of 3.00 set by the USTFCCCA. To qualify, the team must also have recorded a team score at the NCAA Regional Championships. UW-Parkside was seventh at the Midwest Regionals in November. Earlier, they finished third in the Great Lakes Valley Conference (GLVC) meet.

Many of the cross country runners are currently competing for the UW-Parkside track & field team. The Rangers host the GLVC Indoor Championships Feb. 24-25 at the Petretti Fieldhouse of the Sports and Activity Center.
