Tuesday: 10th Chili/Soup Cook Off at UW-Parkside

New Orleans--I'm sorry, NAWLINS--will be crazy tomorrow as Mardi Gras reaches it Crescent City crescendo on Fat Tuesday. Chances are you'll be here, not there, tomorrow but that doesn't mean you can't celebrate. Ya'll can do that at the Parkside Employee Alumni Group's 10th annual Chili/Soup Cook Off.

The festivities start at 11:30 a.m. when the judges ply their palates with the cooks' concoctions. Then the kitchen is open to you and the selection--not to mention the spices--will take your breath away. Here's the menu:

Chili

  • Pretzel & Philly Chili
  • Schmidt's Family Chili
  • Meat Lovers Chili
  • CHILIngua Franca
  • Eat Shrink and Be Merry Chili
  • Nothing Fancy Chili
  • Turkey Chili
  • Home Grown Chili
  • Aunt Matilida's Cross Country Chili
  • Hobo Paul's Chili

Soup

  • "Bestest" Butternut Squash
  • Brother Bob's Gumbo
  • Fungal Matter & Stuff
  • Jambalaya Soup
  • Fiesta Taco Soup
  • Tuscan Chicken Potato Soup
  • Spirit of Knautz Potato Bacon Soup
  • Chicken Taco Soup
  • Hot Pepper Soup
  • Billy Jack's Soup
  • My Grandma's Ham & Bean Soup
  • Yukon Gold Potato Soup

WOW! Buy a bowl (or two or three) or buy a sampler pack that will let you test out several soups and chilies. Proceeds from the event are donated by the Parkside Employee Alumni Group to the Alumni Scholarship Fund.

Students from the UW-Parkside Peer Health Educators will be serving up tasty Mocktails during the Cook Off. Each blended drink is just $1 and they're great as a complement to soup or for putting out a four-alarm chili fire.

A word to the wise, cheri, just like Mardi Gras in Nawlins, the soup and chili will not last. Get there early and laissez les bon temps rouler!
