SAC weight room renovation starts Saturday
The UW-Parkside Sports and Activity Center (SAC) is about to change for the better. A $1.5 million remodeling project will transform two racquetball courts and the current weight room into the 4,170 square foot Ranger Fitness Center complete with a dance studio and sports medicine treatment area. Renovations are expected to be completed in time for fall semester 2012.
"This area was renovated 11 years ago, and it was a great upgrade then, but technology has changed, and we've outgrown that, so we'd like to upgrade that space and technology," Athletic Director Tamie Falk-Day told the Kenosha News.
The weight room closes Saturday, March 10, for remodeling. Free weights from the weight room will be moved to the Wellness Center. The Wellness Center is closed Saturday through Tuesday, March 10-13 for rearranging to accommodate the additional equipment. The Center reopens Wednesday, March 14, at 7 a.m. and is open to students and SAC members.
Falk-Day said the new facilities should improve recruitment and retention of athletes in addition to keeping students, faculty, and staff healthier through exercise.Exterior windows will be added and multi-zoned heating and cooling equipment will be installed. The improvements are funded through student fees.
