UW-Parkside celebrates Worldfest 2012 March 26-30

The University of Wisconsin-Parkside celebrates the world during Worldfest 2012 with nearly two dozen events Mar. 26-30 on the campus at 900 Wood Rd. in Kenosha. Enjoy films, dance demonstrations, sports, fascinating lectures, international shopping, global cuisine, and much more.
The festivities begin Monday, Mar. 26, at noon with a parade along the university's main concourse from the Student Center to Main Place of Wyllie Hall and a flag ceremony featuring the Aztec fire dancing group Omeyocan. Other opening day events include the Universal Soccer Tournament at the Petretti Field of the Sports and Activities Center starting at 6 p.m. and a showing of and discussion about the classic Marx Brothers comedy "Duck Soup" at 8 p.m. in the Student Center Cinema.
Tuesday, Mar. 27, stop by the Student Center Walnut Room to attend the lectures "Weddings around the World" at 2 p.m. and the "Tokyo Olympics 1964" at 4 p.m. That afternoon at 6 p.m., try your hands (and feet) at the couple's dance Quebradita with members of the Latinos Unidos student organization. That's in the conference room of the Pike River Suites.
The World Bazaar offers an international shopping experience in Main Place of Wyllie Hall Wednesday, Mar. 28, from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. At 11:30 a.m., UW-Parkside student Mila Dechant gives a belly dancing performance and workshop. Later that day, the magical anime film "Howl's Moving Castle" is shown in the Student Center Cinema at 8 p.m. Warm up for the film with a class on the Basics of Anime in the Student Center's Walnut Room at 7 p.m.
Worldfest continues Thursday, Mar. 29, with Economics Professor Farida Khan's look at the growth of megacities titled "Urbanization in Developing Countries" in the Student Center Oak Room starting at 12:30 p.m. Your global education continues Friday, Mar. 30, at noon with Communication Professor Fay Akindes' examination of "Nonverbal communication around the world" in the Student Center Oak Room.
Worldfest concludes Friday, Mar. 30, with its most popular annual event: the World Cuisine Dinner. From 6-10 p.m., enjoy a sumptuous meal and performances by the Extra Crispy Brass Band, the Garlic Mustard Pickers, and the Dorian Greek Dancers among others; UW-Parkside students present performances by the Chaos Dance Club and the UW-Parkside Gospel Choir, plus there's an international fashion show, and much, much more.
