Celebrate the world during Woldfest 2012!

Worldfest, the University of Wisconsin-Parkside's weeklong global celebration, starts today with the first of more than two dozen events--the flag ceremony--marching proudly through the main concourse. And tickets are still available for the grand finale--the World Cuisine Dinner--this Friday in the Student Center Ballroom.

The World Cuisine Dinner showcases the rich global culture and talent of the campus and community. This evening of fine dining and entertainment begins at 6 p.m., with the doors to the ballroom opening at 5:30 p.m.

During the World Cuisine Dinner, in addition to a great meal, you'll enjoy performances by the Extra Crispy Brass Band, the Garlic Mustard Pickers, the Mahone Middle School Bonsai Society, Tarantella Dance, and Greek Dance. Then there are the student performances by the Chaos Dance Club and the UW-Parkside Gospel Choir. Throw in an international fashion show and you have a representative sample of the university's and community's cultural background.

Tickets for the World Cuisine Dinner are $12 for students and $25 for faculty, staff, and the community. A limited number of tickets remain. To order yours, visit www.uwp.edu keyword tickets, call 262-595-2307, or stop by the Campus Concierge desk in the UW-Parkside Student Center.

Today, Worldfest festivities start at noon with a flag ceremony, featuring the Aztec fire dancing group Omeyocan. The ceremony spans the campus starting in the Student Center and ending at Main Place, and each flag is carried by a UW-Parkside student.

Other opening day activities are:

  • Worldfest Lecture: "The Japanese, One Generation Removed" with Jo Ann Tong, 2 p.m., Student Center Walnut Room
  • Worldfest Food Tutorial: French Madeleines & Chocolate Mousse, 5 p.m., Pike River Suites Kitchen
  • Worldfest Universal Soccer Tournament, 6 p.m., Petretti Fieldhouse, Sports and Activity Center
  • Worldfest Film & Discussion: the Marx Brothers' "Duck Soup," 8 p.m., Student Center Cinema
