The University of Wisconsin-Parkside has announced the appointment of James McPhaul as director of the Small Business Development Center (SBDC) in the School of Business and Technology (SBT). SBT Dean Dr. Fred Ebeid made the announcement Monday, April 9, adding the full-time appointment is effective May 1, 2012.
McPhaul served as the interim SBDC director starting in September 2012 and has taught in the UW-Parkside Business Department since 2007.
"These part-time appointments were in addition to his position as vice president and senior member of the management team at the Bank of Kenosha (2001-April 2012)," Ebeid said in an email to campus. "In that role, Mr. McPhaul gained a wealth of experience dealing with a large number of small businesses in the region."
McPhaul previously served as a district manager for North Shore Bank in Racine, branch manager at Marine Credit Union in Fond du Lac, and president and CEO of North Shore Gas Credit Union. He earned a Master of Business Administration degree from UW-Parkside in 2005, and taught marketing and introduction to business classes here.
As full-time director, McPhaul said he looks forward to increasing his involvement with our students and the business community, and to further developing the SBDC. While he will primarily be involved with the Center's business outreach program, McPhaul will teach an entrepreneur class each semester.
"I am confident that under Mr. McPhaul's direction, the SBDC will continue to be highly successful," Ebeid added.
The Dean thanked search and screen committee members Tim Knautz, Kristin Niemiec of the Racine County Economic Development Council, Mark Gesner, Gayle Kugler of UW-Extension, Peter Knight, student Katheryn Spranger, and Connie Wheeler for their work.
