Student Military Appreciation Week starts today

The weeklong celebration to honor United States armed forces personnel started today, Monday, April 9, and continues throughout the week. In addition to events, UW-Parkside food service provider Sodexo makes complimentary daily items available to student military veterans at the Brickstone Grill and Eatery.  

Sponsored by Student Activities, Student Military Appreciation Week started with an opening flag ceremony today at noon in Main Place of Wyllie Hall. Monday, starting at 5 p.m., the movies "Top Gun" and "Delta Force" are shown during Military Movie Monday in the Student Center Cinema ("Top Gun" is repeated at 9 p.m.)

Tuesday, April 10, a Military Resource Fair is held from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. on the Student Center Bridge.

Wednesday, April 11, a Soup and Substance program—with free soup!—is presented by David Bruce. That's at noon in the Oak Room of the Student Center.

Wednesday, April 11, at 5 p.m., "Dinner and Dialogue—with a free dinner—features the story of World War II Veteran George Michel. That's in the Student Center Ballroom. Sign up in Student Activities to attend. Check Tuesday's Ranger Today for more about Michel.

Vets also get everything from free beverages to free pizza during the week at the Brickstone. Here's the menu:

  • Monday: Free cup of coffee to all student military
  • Tuesday: Free muffin to all student military
  • Wednesday: Free cookie to all student military
  • Thursday: Free pizza to all student military
  • Friday: Free 20oz fountain soda to all student military
