Call for nominations: Community Learning, Research
Nominations are being accepted for the 2011-2012 University of Wisconsin-Parkside Community-Engaged Learning and Research Award. Every other year, the university recognizes an academic staff member for his or her work on projects that enhance students' learning through community participation.
"This [award] is important to those who work hard to make learning experiences special for our students by including community projects into the curriculum," said Helen Rosenberg, faculty director of Community-Based Learning and Research. She added, "Also, if you feel you have done exceptional work in this area, please nominate yourself."
The first academic staff recipient of this award was Debra Karp, director of Community-Based Scholarship and Nonprofit Development in the university's Center for Community Partnerships.
The award is given to an academic staff member who has demonstrated a long-term commitment to civic engagement. Nomination criteria are:
Learning - Nominee has promoted community-based learning for students through CBL activities that provided meaningful experiences and connections to civic and public issues. Nominee has been responsive to community partners through completion of and reporting on projects. Student evaluations substantiate the importance of CBL in the course toward achieving student learning goals.
Professional Development - Nominee has attended workshops/programs that demonstrate a commitment to promoting community-based learning. Nominee promotes CBL to colleagues and provides support to achieve the goals of community-based learning.
Commitment to Partners and Demonstrated Leadership - Nominee has demonstrated considerable commitment to the development of partnerships through outstanding leadership or outstanding contribution to project success.Nominations should be sent to the Secretary of the Faculty office or emailed to Tara.email@example.com by Monday, April 16. Nominees will be notified and will have until May 1 to submit documentation in support of their nomination.
